PDM keeps every technical artefact — CAD models, drawings, firmware, PDFs — under versioning with check-in / check-out, so nobody manufactures from an outdated file.
Engineering change under control
Engineering Change Notices (ECN) drive BOM revisions through a controlled approval flow. Before a change is released, impact analysis shows exactly what it hits: current stock, work in progress, open purchase orders and released production orders.
Connected, not isolated
CAD connectors (e.g. SolidWorks) push revisions into the same loop production and purchasing already work in.
